Let us help you promote your business or interests with an Internet presence

So, you need a website, but you are unsure how to choose a website designer?

Be sure that your website designer is personable and willing to adapt to your working style and schedule. Talk to the person responsible for implementing your website. Is this someone you will feel comfortable dealing with throughout the website design process and further down the road if you require updates to your website? This is your website. It needs your personal touch. Make sure the designer you choose will effectively implement your ideas in a friendly, cooperative, patient manner.

Think about your intended audience. Who will be visiting your website? Do a majority of these people have a high speed Internet connection? If so, and you require this, choose a website developer who specializes in flash-based websites. These are fancy and catchy websites that require additional work and bandwidth that dial-up and satellite Internet users will tend to avoid. If you wish to include the majority of Internet users make sure your website developer writes fast-loading code that is easily viewed over a dial-up connection, perhaps with richer content options for those with broadband connections.

Getting started with Concept Engineering:

Styling your website: Give us an idea of the type of website you want. Do you have a certain style in mind? Have you seen a style in another website that you like? Are there certain pictures that you would like incorporated into your site? Do you have any graphic design elements (such as a company or personal logo) that you would like on your website? Do you have any text, such as a slogan or more detailed company/personal descriptions, that you want on your website? Any of this information will give us a head start on developing the kind of site that you want. Once we have this information, and your approval, we can get a homepage up on the Internet quite quickly.

Getting your website up on the Internet: (We will do any of this, but so can you!) Once you are happy with your homepage, we can upload it to the Internet for others to see. The first step in establishing an Internet presence is to create an account with a web host. You can find one you like or we can recommend a few. This costs about $5 per month for a small business or personal account.

You need to register a domain name. A domain is your unique web address, such as www.YourCompany.com. (For example, our web address is ConceptEngineering.net.) Once you decide on an available domain name you then claim that name and register it. This costs approximately $10 per year.

Along with your web hosting and domain registration you get all of the email addresses you could possibly want at no extra charge. So, you (or we) can set up email accounts for everybody and every function associated with your business. For example, my company email address is Geoffrey@ConceptEngineering.net.

The last step: We now have at least a homepage approved by you, a place to put your website (web host), and a way for others to visit your website (your domain name) on the Internet. Now, we just need to upload your site onto the web host server. Once you have approved the design of your web pages, we can upload your site files onto the web server allowing people to view your website.

Further steps: Anyone to whom you give permission may update any of your web site files and post those changes to the web server using any one of the available free or paid FTP programs. (See our Tech Tips page for our recommendation on a nice free FTP client.) Again, we can help you do this or we can do it for you; but you are welcome and able to completely separate from us at any time and transfer our responsibilities to someone else.

Below is a pricing guideline. Costs depend on website complexity and graphic elements.
